White Mountain Honors 2021 Champions, Points Chasers at Annual Banquet
/N. Woodstock, NH — Over 60 cars were on hand for Saturday’s practice session including two bad-fast winged representatives of the New England Supermodified Series (NESS). The five-hour practice session gave a sneak-peek for the upcoming season with returning veterans and new faces all around the pit area. After an exciting prelude to the upcoming year, the limelight shone on the top finishers at the 2021 Banquet and Celebration of Champions.

Along with the top point chasers in all four championship divisions, the Dad’s 4 By Tools and Supply Kid’s Truck division drivers received praise as did several special award winners. Woodsville Guarantee Savings Bank Strictly Stock Mini Rookie of the Year and Champion Luke Shannon received his two-for-one prizes while Vermont’s Tanner Woodard was awarded his Wells River Chevrolet Flying Tiger Rookie award. St. Johnsbury’s Kasey Beattie was also on hand to receive his Rookie of the Year award for the Foley Oil & Propane Late Models, his second consecutive top rookie honors.
Claremont, New Hampshire’s Mike Jurkowski returned to White Mountain after several seasons away, earning 10th in Late Model points. Along with taking the closest Late Model victory in 2021, just barely edging fellow veteran Jerry Lesage last summer, he earned the respect of all those in the pit area for his level headedness and determination. It was these accolades and more that earned Jurkowski the 2021 White Mountain Motorsports Park Sportsmanship award.

One of the biggest celebrations of the evening was for the 2021 King of the Mountain, Late Model champion Jeff Marshall. Previous winner of the Sportsmanship award, Marshall and his team put a serious effort together in 2021 that saw them earn three wins and six podium finishes. The champ was quietly excited in his trademark way, thanking his crew and fellow competitors alike.

Lastly, the sun dipped below the peaks to the honoree of the 2021 Avery Award. Since 2019, the Avery Award has been given to an individual who exemplifies the same spirit, tenacity and dedication for stock car racing and White Mountain Motorsports Park that the Avery Family has had since constructing the racetrack nearly three decades ago. 6-time champion Stacey Cahoon earned this years award not from his many successes, but from his embodiment of those same ideals over his 35-plus year involvement in stock car racing.

White Mountain Motorsports Park opens the 2022 campaign with the 30th Season Opener Doubleheader Weekend on May 14 and 15. Saturday, May 14 at 6:00pm is a four-division card with added-distance features for the Foley Oil & Propane Late Models, Wells River Chevrolet Flying Tigers, Woodsville Guaranty Savings Bank Strictly Stock Mini’s, and Wayne’s Market Dwarf Cars. Sunday, May 15 at 1:00pm features the world debut of the New England Supermodified Series plus the PASS Super Late Model 150, PASS Modifieds, Ammonoosuc Asphalt Mini Late Models, and Dads 4 By Tool & Supply Kids Division. The annual White Mountain Car Show is also on Saturday from 10:00am to 1:00pm. Pricing and full schedule information are to be announced throughout the week.
