Recap: Official Picks for Top 5 Events in 2024
/N. Woodstock, NH — With the blistering cold weather zipping through the valley, White Mountain Motorsports Park officials looked back on warmer days to narrow down the top five events of the last season.
June 15 – Woodsville Guaranty Savings Bank Father’s Day Special
The annual Father’s Day Special 50-lapper for the Woodsville Guaranty Savings Bank Strictly Stock Minis once again did not disappoint! Rising star and 2023 Rookie of the Year McKenna Merchant staked her claim after rolling side over side the week before, leading all fifty laps in the thirteen minute green-to-checkered feature over longtime veterans Todd Derrington and Donnie Baumgardner! First time winners Kyle Goodbout in the Foley Oil & Propane Late Models and Dads 4 By Tool & Supply Kids Division victor Jaiden Del Toro also made their Dads proud during the annual Father’s Day Special.
July 27 – Wall’s Ford New Hampshire Governor’s Cup Twin 100s
The Monaco Modified Tri-Track Series took on White Mountain Motorsports Park for the first time alongside the Foley Oil & Propane Late Models for a Wall’s Ford New Hampshire Governor’s Cup twin 100 lap format. Gabe Brown battled with White Mountain’s most recent track champions Kasey Beattie and Quinny Welch before securing the New Hampshire Governor’s Cup win to maintain his Wall’s Ford Platinum Series lead before the mighty Monaco Modifieds took the track! After leading the first nineteen laps, Stephen Kopcik gave the lead to a hard-charging Woody Pitkat who spent the next fifty laps trying to lap ‘Big Money’ Matt Hirschman after a rough qualifying effort for the multi-time champ. A pair of late race cautions and pit cycles found Rehoboth, Massachusetts driver Jake ‘The Jet’ Johnson in the catbird seat, cruising to the first series win at White Mountain!
September 14 – Wall’s Ford Platinum Series Championship Night
September was pretty hard to beat at White Mountain and it all started with the Wall’s Ford Platinum Series championship round on September 14. The rough and rowdy fight for the crown saw Gabe Brown take the lead around Quinny Welch on lap 8 and never look back. Brown became the second American-Canadian Tour invader to sweep the Wall’s Ford Platinum Series championship, following Derek Gluchacki’s domination of the inaugural season back in 2022. September 14 also saw a rare all female podium in the first Dads 4 By Tool & Supply Kids Division feature of the night. Madison Potter claimed her first win in the Kids Division, followed close behind by Chloe Doyle and Makenzi Sicard across the line which had the crowd on their feet!
September 21 – 46th Bar Harbor Bank & Trust Fall Foliage 200
With the backing of Bar Harbor Bank & Trust, the Fall Foliage called White Mountain home once again in 2024 in a big way. With over 100 cars in the pit area, a full card of racing between the Pro All Stars Series and American-Canadian Tour brought plenty of thunder to the mountains! A hard-fought, come-and-go battle in the PASS Super Late Models saw Jimmy Hebert in the lead at the halfway point with multi-time White Mountain winner Johnny Clark bearing down. Clark took the lead but faced similar pressure from Derek Griffith as the two battled to the very end with Griffith getting the advantage and the win.
Bryan Wall, Jr. and Erick Sands brought the Bar Harbor Bank & Trust Fall Foliage 200 to green for the ACT Tour but all eyes were once again on Gabe Brown. The Wall’s Ford Platinum champion took the lead on lap 26 and led through until he jumped pit-side for tires on lap 68. Ironically, he spent the next 68 laps climbing back through the field, taking the lead around Wall on lap 137 and drove to the win with a mirror full of Kasey Beattie and Alexendre Tardif at the line!
September 24 – White Mountain Motorsports Park Championship Night
Championship Night is always circled on the summer calendar for the fans that call White Mountain Motorsports Park home on Saturday nights and 2024 was no exception. A stellar crowd greeted the racers for their final showdown of the year with all eyes on the Ammonoosuc Asphalt Mini Late Models. Just two points separated inaugural champion Nick Anderson from first-time full-timer Nick Miller. After Miller actually took a two point advantage following heat race qualifying, the two stayed on each other's tails until the final lap. A backstretch melee between the two saw the frontrunners careen into the infield grass with Miller getting ahead across the line. Tied in points at 426 points each, Miller earned the track championship in the tiebreaker for having two third-place finishes in 2024 over Anderson’s single third-place run.
Not to be outshone, Garrett LaBounty took down his first Mini Late Model win in the same event, Patrick Switser also overcame a two point deficit on Todd Derrington to claim the Strictly Mini championship, Khloe Goodbout took her first Kids Division win and Tanner Woodard claimed his first Late Model track championship without winning a single point-counting event!
