Sicard Officially Five-for-Five, Marshall Returns to Winning Ways in Twin 76s
/N. Woodstock, NH — The Twin 76-formula certainly works for fireworks both on and off the track on Independence Day weekend and Saturday at White Mountain Motorsports Park was all the proof that anyone would ever need. In the end, both Twin 76’s consisted of ultra-competitive three-way battles in both Foley Oil & Propane and Wells River Chevrolet Flying Tiger competition. In the end, only one stands victorious.
Round two of the J.P. Sicard Flying Tiger Triple Crown series was a rolling thunder of exciting thrills for 76 laps on the White Mountain high banks. For the entire distance, former Thunder Road and Speedway 51 Tiger Champion Brendan Moodie invaded the home turf of the undisputed King of long-distance White Mountain events, Shane Sicard. Over the final 30 laps of the event, Sicard and Moodie battled hard, wheel-to-wheel with each other, leaving both with plenty of donuts and burnt vinyl.
To make matters worse for the dueling champions, the father/son duo Jason and Tanner Woodard continued to knock furiously on their backdoor, adding to the pressure to perform. By the final two circuits, Sicard did what he had to and maintained a strong car-length lead, taking his fifth Triple Crown race in a row. Tanner Woodard powered around Brendan Moodie for second with the invading Moodie rounding out the podium.
The track was just as hot for the Foley Oil & Propane Late Models during their 76 lap main event to celebrate the 4th. After early leaders Mike Jurkowski and Mark Patten spun out of the front row, it was all up to rookies Bryan Wall, Jr. and Ryan Ware. As Wall slowly succumbed to traffic all around him, Ware’s powerful charge went sour with a dead engine on the front-stretch. From then on it was a dance between defending champion Jeff Marshall and Kasey Beattie, still searching for that first Late Model win.
Everything changed on lap 56. As Beattie chose the high ground in his battle with Marshall, third place runner Jesse Switser saw the open lane underneath Marshall. As the three-wide party made it off turn four, Beattie ran out of room and went full steam ahead into the barriers in turn one, ending his night. For the final twenty circuits, it was relatively smooth sailing for the defending champ who triumphantly sailed under the checkered flag in first. Jeff Marshall won by a car length over Jesse Switser who was in turn followed by Ben Belanger in his first Late Model podium at White Mountain.
Coming off their annual 50-lap special, the Woodsville Guaranty Savings Bank Strictly Stock Minis were ready to settle back into their usual 25-lap sprint. Led to point by Gavin McGinnis and Scott Senecal, both were quickly overtaken by Jillian Baumgardner and Chris Moulton. Following a last lap wreck in turn four involving Les Washburn and point-leader Tyler Thompson, Moulton came out on top for his second ever victory followed by Jillian Baumgardner and Kristian Switser in his first White Mountain podium finish.
The Dads 4 By Tool & Supply Kids Division was also a wild one. The veterans found their way around the ‘new kids on the block’ and showed them the path to victory. McKenna Merchant took down the win closely stalked by last week’s winner, hometown boy Kyle Goodbout. The patriotic Logan Farnsworth rounded out the podium.
Next up at the White Mountain Motorsports Park are the all-important Midseason Championships on Saturday, July 9th. On hand will be the Foley Oil & Propane Late Models, Wells River Chevrolet Flying Tigers, Ammonoosuc Asphalt Mini Late Models, Woodsville Guaranty Savings Bank Strictly Stock Minis, Wayne’s Market Dwarf Cars and Dads 4 By Tool & Supply Kids Division for double points and added distance. Full schedule and pricing will be released in the coming days.
