Remick Nabs Triple Crown at White Mountain

Woodard, Shannon, Smithers, and Smithers Carry Checkered Flags

N. Woodstock, NH -- Monroe, NH's Oren Remick pulled the clean sweep at White Mountain Motorsports Park on Saturday, June 5 by capturing the Triple Crown in the Foley Oil & Propane Late Models. Remick fended off Alby Ovitt and Quinny Welch in a barnburner to win the Late Model feature after also taking his heat and the semi-feature earlier in the program.

The veteran Remick rolled off the starting grid fifth due to a disappointing month of May. After spending the first stage of the event boxed in traffic, Remick surged following a lap-9 caution, knifing past rookie Zacary Fraser and polesitter Dave LaBrecque to take the lead. Eight-time "King of the Mountain" Quinny Welch of Groveton, NH wasn't far behind, sliding into second just before Fraser, Dennis Dumas, and Brockton Davis got wadded up on the backstretch to bring out the yellow with 17 laps complete.

The caution also brought Matthew Morrill, point leader Jimmy Renfrew Jr., Jeff Marshall, and others into the mix. When the green flew again, Remick and Welch went after it. Welch poked the nose out front on lap 28 only for Remick to wrest the lead back the following circuit. As they went toe-to-toe, Raymond, NH's Alby Ovitt was slicing and dicing behind them, moving into the third spot as Morrill hung tough right behind.

A trio of yellows between laps 35 and 39, including one that forced Renfrew to retire from the race, kept things packed tightly at the front. Ovitt got the jump on Welch for second following the lap-35 caution and put Remick in the pressure cooker over the final 11-lap sprint. But Remick was never fazed, beating him to the checkered flag by half a car length.

Ovitt finished second while Welch was third, giving each a trio of trophies in the first five events. Morrill continued his recent resurgence with a fourth-place effort while Marshall came home fifth. John Donahue, Scott Dragon, Jamie Aube, Tyler Cahoon, and rookie Kasey Beattie rounded out the top-10.

Wells River Chevrolet Flying Tiger rookie Tanner Woodard of Waterbury Center, VT was a first-time winner in their two-segment feature. Woodard started and finished third in the first 25-lap segment as Littleton, NH's Ryan Ware and Marshfield, VT's Matthew Potter duked it out from the front row. Ware pulled away from Potter down the stretch for the segment win in a caution-free race.

In segment two, Tanner started fourth after two drivers elected the rear. He then chased his dad Jason for the entire 25-lap run, with Jason winning the segment by just a couple tenths of a second over Tanner. But while the father won the battle, the son won the war. Tanner's total of five points gave him the tiebreaker over Ware, who finished fourth in the final segment, handing the younger Woodard the overall win.

Jason Woodard completed the podium, maintaining his point lead over fourth-place finisher Shane Sicard. Potter ended up fifth in the final run-down.

Another rookie stood in victory lane for the Woodsville Guaranty Savings Bank Strictly Stock Mini's as Groveton, NH's Luke Shannon took his second win of the year. The teenager needed just four laps to charge from sixth to first, taking the top spot from fellow first-year driver Rick Shifflett.

Shannon, who was bouncing back from a vicious crash at the previous event, was on cruise control from there. Although a thrilling four-way duel for second developed behind him, Shannon had the view he wanted as he took the victory in a caution-free 25-lap feature.

Bethelem, NH's Todd Derrington won the duel for second, following up his win the last time out. Rookie Donnie Baumgardner had a career-best third place effort. Mike Smith, Brett Jackson, Dustin Jackson, Jack Hayes, point leader Tyler Thompson, Scott Senecal, and Tim Corey finished fourth through 10th. Dustin Jackson was competing in a substitute driver role for Joe Giddings.

Gilmanton, NH's Tommy Smithers made it two wins in a row for the Arnolds Wayside Diner Dwarf Cars. Smithers finished third in the first of two 20-lap segments, following Jason Wyman and Colby Bourgeois across the finish line.

St. Johnsbury, VT's Bourgeois was up to second in the final segment when Wyman spun out of the fourth spot with four laps remaining. Bourgeois took the segment lead from Chad Dufour on the restart and was seemingly on his way to an easy victory. However, on the final lap, Bourgeois' car shut down entering turn three. Smithers took advantage, sailing past the helpless Bourgeois to win the segment and the overall.

Bethlehem, NH's Jeff Ainsworth used a pair of fourth-place finishes to take the second-place trophy. Despite his spin, Wyman was able to finish third overall. Dave Gyger and Dufour completed the top-five.

For the second time this year, both Smithers and his son Thomas VI took home victories on the same night. Thomas Smithers VI started third in the 15-lap Dads 4 By Tool & Supply Kids Truck feature and took the lead from Dominic Warren on lap 5. He then rolled to a caution-free victory over Warren, Owen Rodgers, McKenna Merchant, and Logan Farnsworth.
