Jurkowski Earns Foley Oil & Propane Gold with Leaf Peepers 100 Victory
/N. Woodstock, NH — The Foley Oil & Propane Leaf Peepers 100 program brought some of the most hard nosed, intense stock car racing of the White Mountain Motorsports Park season. Side-by-side battles highlighted all six divisions in their feature events with four first time winners this season taking top honors to start their Labor Day weekend in style.
Headlined by the Foley Oil & Propane Leaf Peeper 100, the Foley Oil & Propane Late Models put on a barnburner for the ages on the White Mountain high banks. Starting off with a tight battle between veterans Mike Jurkowski and Stacy Cahoon, point leader Quinny Welch drove into second place by lap 5. By a quarter of the way through at lap 25, Jurkowski continued to lead Welch with the point leader all over the seafoam-green bumper cover of Jurkowski’s 42NH.
The first caution of the Leaf Peepers 100 came out at the halfway point with a flat right front for third-place runner Jesse Switser, earning himself a one-lap penalty for bringing out the intentional yellow flag. As an extra distance race, successful Flying Tiger pilot Justin Prescott earned the first Lucky Dog of the night in his first Late Model race to rejoin the lead lap. With Jurkowski choosing the outside lane, Welch pulled to the lead on the bottom but not for long.
Jurkowski remained tough on the outside with Kasey Beattie and Cahoon following him on the outside and Welch with Bryan Wall Jr. on the bottom. With the top five under a blanket, Jurkowski convincingly stole back the lead by lap 57 until the second caution came out for the spinning Jon Savage into the front stretch grass.
Now outside Kasey Beattie, Jurkowski again fought valiantly on the outside groove with the two of them doorhandle-to-doorhandle throughout the ensuing laps. A ferocious back and forth battle between the two would last through the final quarter of the event with Mike Jurkowski nabbing the win over Kasey Beattie by a fender at the line. After back tracking midway through the event, Stacy Cahoon would power back up to finish third with Bryan Wall Jr. and Quinny Welch rounding out the top five. Jurkowski not only nabbed his first win of the season but also the $1,000 cash bonus put up by Foley Oil & Propane!
As the 23-strong NELCAR Legends Tour field took stage for their 30-lap feature, the crisp fall air enveloped the grounds of White Mountain Motorsports Park. From the start it was the $64,000 Question for young Dylan Deshaies. Deshaies’ green and black #64 took down the NELCAR win here at WMMP back in May and looked for the repeat while leading the regional NELCAR points. After dominating the first half of the event, a lap 22 restart changed everything with the 15-machine of Trevor Krouse convincingly taking the lead out from under Deshaies. With five to go, Deshaies pulled up to the back bumper of Krouse, diving under him in turn four to steal back the lead at lap 27. Dylan Deshaies would make it two-for-two at White Mountain in 2022 followed closely by Trevor Krouse for second and Jake Sylvia in third.
The ultimate starter division, the NELCAR Bandoleros took to the White Mountain high banks for the second time in 2022. The fast, scaled down division for youngsters saw only one major incident as Grason Day and Brody Wakefield crashed into the turn one wall on lap one, afterwards it was smooth sailing for the #84 Bradley Strickland machine. Joey Lemay and Chase Sylvia rounded out the Bandolero podium.
Led to green by cousins Chandler and Matt Potter, the 35-lap Wells River Chevrolet Flying Tiger feature event was yet another barnburner on Foley Oil & Propane Night. Side-by-side for the first five laps, Shane Sicard would sneak into second as Matt Potter dropped to the back on the outside. Chandler still held his own out front against Sicard as Mike Clark entered the mix on the outside. Lap 12 brought the first caution for the spinning Joey Laquerre in turn three.
On the restart, Chandler Potter chose the outside of Sicard, taking off from with the lead as Sicard and Mike Clark fought doorhandle-to-doorhandle for second place until Chandler spun around in turn two following contact from Clark. Both would restart at the tail of the field. Once again under the green flag, Kaiden Fisher took the high side advantage over Sicard to lead at the halfway point and never looked back. Two more cautions would allow both Tanner and Jason Woodard to join in the fun out front but ultimately it just wasn’t enough. Kaiden Fisher took down his first ever White Mountain win followed by point leaders Shane Sicard and Tanner Woodard on Foley Oil & Propane Night.
Jack Hayes started with the Woodsville Guaranty Savings Bank Strictly Stock Mini lead before Kristian Switser took over the top spot as they returned to the line on lap one. While Switser held onto the lead, the JJ Goodbout Chevy Cavalier blew up in turn three calling out the first caution of the event. The restart would bring an intense battle for second between Hayes and Jillian Baumgardner while Switser retained the lead out front. A four-way battle for third between Baumgardner, Les Washburn, Todd Derrington and Tyler Thompson was the highlight of the race with Jillian Baumgardner taking the bronze medal at the line. Kristian Switser would be relegated to second after Jack Hayes edged him by a fender to take the win.
The Dad’s 4 By Tool & Supply Kids Division followed a first-time-ever winner in August with a first-timer in 2022 on Foley Oil & Propane Night. After Kyle Dumas, son of former weekly Late Model runner Dennis Dumas, took out the first caution on lap 3 during his first White Mountain feature event, the Kids went green to checkers in their 15-lap feature. McKenna Merchant was flying on the outside before settling for third behind Kyle Goodbout while Logan Farnsworth took down his first win of the season after finishing third multiple times this season.
